Why we want you?
Macmillan Solutions Manchester began in 2008. The project aims to help people affected by cancer to get help with their everyday needs. This includes practical and emotional support in their homes across Manchester and Tameside.
Macmillan Solutions aims to meet the needs identified by the people affected by cancer that it supports. Volunteers are vital to the success of the project and help to provide a wide variety of services to people affected by cancer either in their own home or at an agreed location
What you will be doing
There are numerous ways in which volunteers can support a Macmillan Solutions service such as practical help with everyday tasks like transport to appointments, gardening, shopping, telephone support, cleaning, and/or emotional support and befriending.

- Communicate clearly
- Effective listening
- Considerate and approachable
- Committed and reliable
- Non-judgmental and respectful of others difference and choices
- Empathy for people affected by cancer and the services that Macmillan Solutions provides
- Maintain confidentiality
- Willing to work on own or as part of a team with guidance & support from the Volunteer Support Worker or Lead Volunteer
- Recognise own boundaries

Other information
- Macmillan Solutions is an outreach service where you will be out and about in the community.
- If you are driving, you need to maintain a roadworthy vehicle and have up to date insurance and MOT
- We pay volunteers ‘out-of-pocket’ expenses and mileage within agreed guidelines
- All volunteers are required to complete a DBS check and provide two references
