We are looking for enthusiastic Volunteers to create a team of Virtual Befrienders for inpatients at Belfast City Hospital. This is a home-based role using virtual platform to speak to patients.
What activities volunteers will be involved in?
- Providing support by video call (Virtual Platform)
- Adopting a non-judgemental and supportive approach to understand the needs and concerns of people living with cancer
- Speaking to (1-3) inpatients by video call once a week for 3-4 hours, days flexible
- Signposting to additional support if required and raising any further concerns with the Volunteer Manager / Nurse-in-charge

- Good listener and clear communicator
- Patient, flexible and reliable
- Ability to respect others’ differences and choices
- Ability to demonstrate empathy and understanding while maintaining boundaries
- Understand the need to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to recognise when to ask for support
- Ability to work independently with guidance and support
- Enhanced Access NI clearance required before commencement
