Volunteer (Horticulture) Gardener – Cancer Centre, Belfast City Hospital

We are looking for enthusiastic Volunteers to create a team of Gardeners to maintain and reinvigorate garden areas within the Cancer Centre at Belfast City Hospital.

The location of the role : Cancer Centre, Belfast City Hospital

Flexible role with anticipated commitment of 3-4 hours per week

What activities the volunteer will be involved in

  • Gardening - general tidying up and sweeping of leaves
  • To weed and clear raised planters and paths
  • To fertilize and prune/cut back, plants/shrubs, where necessary.
  • To turn over soil in areas where required
  • To request plants and bulbs when seasonally required for planting.

What are we looking for in a volunteer (skills/experience)?

  • Some horticultural knowledge of planting and pruning
  • Effective listening and communication skills.
  • A helpful and caring attitude.
  • Understanding the boundaries and limitations of the volunteer role.
  • Discretion and sensitivity with an understanding of confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently with guidance and support
