The James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough Minimum of 4 hours per week
There is a range of volunteer roles available. We are seeking volunteers with a range of different skills, ability and experience to support us in delivering:
Working in outreach areas around the hospital to talk to patients, carers and families, providing a friendly listening ear
Provide refreshments to patients
Provide Macmillan literature relevant to the users’ needs
Signposting users to other services, agencies and sources of good information and support, specific to their identified needs
Opportunities to support group work, such as providing information on hair loss (and giving a head scarf demonstration) or facilitating pamper sessions
Opportunities to support the Trinity Holistic Centre team whom we work closely alongside About Trinity Holistic Centre - South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
Personal qualities sought:
Training
Trust Mandatory Training covering topics like infection control, fire safety etc.
Macmillan Induction Programme – including being a Macmillan volunteer and what it means, an overview of cancer and the cancer journey, listening and communication skills, coping mechanisms, code of conduct, confidentiality
Other training relevant to the volunteer role based on learning and development needs
Training and support from experienced volunteers
Management support from Cancer Support Worker or Centre Manager
