Macmillan Volunteer Driver

The Northern Health and Social Care Trust is seeking volunteer drivers to join its Macmillan Volunteer Driving Team to help support people living with cancer. We are seeking volunteer drivers from the following districts:-

Causeway Coast and Glens area eg Coleraine, Ballymoney, Ballycastle, Castlerock, Portrush, Portstewart etc

As one of our team of drivers, you will be giving your time to drive service users who are unable to access appropriate, reliable, safe and affordable transport from the Service User’s home or place of residence to Laurel House, at Antrim Area Hospital for chemotherapy treatment and return to the Service User’s home or place of residence in the volunteers own car. The time commitment will be variable depending on the service user’s treatment.

This is a rewarding experience to help support people affected by cancer in your community. Elizabeth and Susan who currently volunteer in Laurel House have over 25 years of volunteering between them, both have expressed how it is an honour and privilege to help support people who are receiving cancer treatment in Laurel House. If you are helpful and caring and have the ability to make people feel at ease and can offer companionship to the Service User during the journey, then this volunteer role could be for you.

There are specific requirements for this role:

  • Full clean driving licence but all enquiries dealt with on an individual basis
  • Must never have been disqualified from driving or had licence removed
  • Valid car insurance
  • Valid MOT

  • We cover volunteer mileage expenses as per Travel — mileage and fuel rates and allowances - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
  • We carry out Access NI checks on all volunteers and require copies of driving licences and car insurance certificates
