We need volunteers to help us run the new Macmillan Information and Support Centre at Frimley Park Hospital. Our centre provides appropriate information, advice and support to anyone affected by cancer - patients, carers, relatives and friends, general public, and health care professionals.

We are looking for a STOCK MANAGEMENT volunteer at Frimley Park Hospital to focus on managing our information stock, ensuring our information is up to date, appropriately displayed, and managing the requests from our clinical nursing teams for patient diagnosis packs. **A half or full day session at least once per week would be required, ideally for a minimum of 12 months. ** **Our Information Centre volunteers support us in many different ways, and as we now look for administrative support with a focus on information stock and diagnosis packs management, the key tasks for this role would usually include: **

  • Checking booklet and leaflet stock is current and up to date
  • Keeping our information cupboards in good order with stock levels according to need
  • Keeping our hospital information booklet rack lists current and replenishing rack contents as needed
  • Making information booklet/leaflet orders and collating stock usage
  • Making up patient diagnosis packs as requested by CNS teams
  • Checking patient diagnosis pack contents is up to date & stocked as needs dictate
  • Supporting the team with any changes made to the pack contents
  • Managing promotional materials as needed – making & displaying posters/flyers
  • Support with cancer awareness information weeks and coffee morning

Alongside the above administration duties, you may wish to support the team in other areas where possible, which may include:

  • Recording visitor and caller information on our database
  • Undertaking research as needed on local and national support services
  • Updating our in-house patient information resources (using of various Microsoft applications)
  • Supporting with feedback surveys, data collection and other general admin tasks
  • Meeting and greeting visitors to the centre & taking calls

Volunteer interests in the various support areas above will be considered and respected

This role will suit someone who:

  • Is a good “people person”, enjoys listening to others and supporting those in need
  • Wants to gain new knowledge and skills
  • Is happy to work independently and also be part of a team
  • Wishes to give at least three hours a week of their time, ideally for a minimum of 12 months

After an initial informal interview, you would be asked to attend one of our monthly Trust Volunteer Information sessions, and a DBS check will be requested. Upon joining you will receive an induction programme, access to appropriate training and be part of a team helping support anyone affected by cancer.
