Macmillan Telephone Buddy (Northern Ireland)

Living with cancer can feel incredibly isolating. At Macmillan, we understand how powerful it can be to have someone who truly listens.

If you're empathetic, reliable, and a good listener, we'd love to welcome you to our team as a Macmillan Telephone Buddy. It's a meaningful way to offer support and make a real difference in the lives of people living with cancer.

The time commitment for this role can vary depending on the needs of the service. As a Buddy Volunteer, you’ll typically offer 1 to 2 hours of telephone support each week—providing a vital listening ear to someone who really needs it.

Not only is this rewarding but we’ll invest in your development with online training, you will receive a full training package and ongoing support to help you settle into the role. However, a basic understanding of Microsoft packages (such as Outlook, Word, and Teams) will be helpful, as they’re used regularly in the role.

Selection will take place following an informal interview via Microsoft Teams and successful completion of both the online training and induction. The training includes a combination of self-directed learning and live online group sessions, taking approximately 10 hours in total to complete. To help keep things on track, we ask that all training is completed within 6 weeks of starting.

Use your time and skills to make a real difference. Support people living with cancer—and grow your own skills along the way. Together, we can be there when it matters most. If you'd like to be part of our team, we invite you to apply and volunteer today!
