Event Support Volunteer (Edinburgh Marathon Festival - 24-25 May 2025)

Opportunity image

The Edinburgh Marathon takes place in the glorious Scottish capital. With events for all abilities, including family friendly events, the festival truly takes over the city and is an exciting event to be a part of. We have roles for all ages so take in the sights of Arthur’s seat and the ancient castle as you cheer on our fabulous runners all raising vital funds to support people living with cancer.

What will you be doing?

Cheerpoint

  • Join a friendly group of volunteers to give our runners some much needed encouragement as they race to the finish line.
  • Everything you need to make some noise and paint the path green will be provided (Macmillan tabards, cowbells, clappers, pom poms etc.)
  • Various shift times are available. Can’t do one of those but would still like to volunteer, get in touch and we can help!

Finish line

  • Welcoming runners as they enter the marquee
  • Supporting with the merchandise stand
  • Helping in the polaroid area
  • Handing out food
  • Managing the massage queue
  • Making teas and coffees

Your impact

  • Over £1Million raised by 3200 runners in 2004
  • This money could staff the Edinburgh Macmillan Information Centre for nearly 2 whole years!

Accessibility

  • Some locations are wheelchair accessible but transport to and from the location will be limited due to road closures.
  • This event will be loud, if you have sensitivity to loud noises we’d recommend skipping this one.
  • We aim to accommodate all accessibility needs. Please contact us with any support you may need.

At Macmillan we give people with cancer everything we’ve got. Do you have enthusiasm for fundraising and work well in a team? Then we would love you to join us as an Event Support Volunteer and be a part of an amazing team on the day, and if you love the experience you might be inspired to join the team at other events in the future.

By sharing your skills and time, you’ll have a rewarding and fun experience, helping us to deliver an excellent experience for event participants and meet new people as part of a friendly team that makes a difference in the community. Together, we can be right there for people with cancer.
