Event Support Volunteer (Macmillan Legacy of a Lifetime Garden at RHS Wentworth Woodhouse - 16-20 July 2025)

Opportunity image

Are you passionate about gardening or do you simply enjoy being in a beautiful location and engaging with people? We are looking for volunteers to help us raise awareness of Gifts in Wills and their importance to Macmillan at our RHS Wentworth Woodhouse Legacy Garden - The Legacy of a Lifetime Garden by Pandora Ryan. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of this wonderful RHS event while supporting Macmillan!

Gifts in Wills fund over a third of Macmillan's services so during this event we are looking to increase awareness of gifts in wills, uncover how the audience feels about leaving a gift in their will to Macmillan and give away leaflets and seed packets with more details about how a person can find out more about leaving a gift in their will to Macmillan. The garden has been designed around legacy giving and Macmillan's services and therefore holds quite a lot of talking points which volunteers can use to spark conversation.

No prior knowledge about legacy giving is required. Legacy team members will be at the event and volunteers will be fully briefed in advance of the event. We ask that volunteers for the event attend a briefing session at either 12pm or 6.30pm for 1 hour on Monday 14th of July. If the Volunteer cannot make either of these sessions we would appreciate if they could let us know and we can arrange a separate call. Volunteers should feel confident speaking to the general public.

What will you be doing?

Garden Assistant (Entrance): This volunteer will be responsible for managing the number of people in the garden at one time. You will hand out the garden leaflet and explain the walk way system while answering any initial questions people have about the garden

Garden Assistant (Exit): This volunteer will be responsible for thanking people for visiting the garden, asking people their thoughts on the garden while also speaking to the people outside the garden about the meaning behind the garden.

Ticket Runner and Garden Assistant: This volunteer will be responsible for meeting Macmillan guests at the gate to give them their ticket for the show. When you are not doing this you will be giving leaflets and information to visitors who do not want to visit inside the garden.

What makes this event special?

A fantastic and fun event that is very popular. You will receive free entry to the show and can use the time outside of your volunteering hours and your breaks to explore it.
