Join us on the breathtaking Northumberland Coast in September to support thousands of hikers taking on a fantastic fundraising challenge. There are a range of shift times and locations to choose from, with the full marathon hike taking place on Saturday and the half marathon on Sunday, with start and finish roles available on both days. Depending on the role you sign up for you could be involved in a number of ways:
Start village – You’ll be helping with essential preparations ahead of the event and soaking up the atmosphere and excitement before hikers head off on their challenge. You could be greeting participants as the first face they see, handing out registration numbers, or supporting on our pop-up shop selling Macmillan merchandise. With early start times, this role will best suit volunteers who live locally.
Finish village – There’s plenty to get involved in with this role, and you’ll be a key part of helping hikers celebrate their amazing achievement at the end of their hike. You could be capturing photo memories for participants at our finisher wall, selling our participants a memento from our pop-up shop, or even congratulating our finishers across the line with a medal and glass of fizz. You’re more than welcome to volunteer at both the start and finish of the event.
The 2025 Mighty Hike series saw over 28,000 hikers raise an incredible £14 million pounds, and this could not have been achieved without the support of every Mighty Volunteer. Join us in 2026 to be part of something truly amazing. Volunteering at a Mighty Hike really is one of the most rewarding experiences; sharing the sense of pride with everyone at the events, enjoying the brilliant atmosphere and feeling united by knowing that you are a key part in helping us to raise as much money for people living with cancer.
